I got my Clip today from Amazon. It’s my first MP3 player, so maybe these are dumb questions.
I don’t understand what Auto-Power and Sleep do, particularly what the difference is. The manual isn’t helpful on this.
Also, If those aren’t both turned off, could that affect charging with a dedicated AC charger? In other words, if they do whatever they do, would that turn off charging?
And on a distantly related subject, while playing with it a bit it looks like it’s always trying to play something. I know you can turn it off, and you can pause it, but is there a way to get it to just quit playing anything at all and go back to the Menu or some other idle place? I’m still on firmware 11a, in case that matters. I’ll update that after it has charged.
When you pause in a song the player is essentially stopped - there is no need for a ‘stop’ button.
The Auto-Power setting is the length of time after which the player will shut itself off if unused (i.e. in pause or after songs in folder has finished playing - but NOT when you pause in FM i’ve read, then the player will stay on). It won’t do when charging.
The Sleep is for making the player shut off after the set time, like if you want til listen to it before/as you are going to sleep. I don’t know if Sleep will actually turn off the player if it is connected to an AC charger…?

I’m not sure if this is what you’re after, but…if you want the Clip to power up in a different mode/function other than Music, you can navigate to that function, USE it (make a voice recording for example), and then shut 'er down (or allow to self-power down) and next time you power up - it will default to that menu location.
I use this sometimes to “repurpose” the Clip as a voice recorder, and it avoids having to navigate through the menus to get to that function. Then simply mashing the center button will trigger a new recording.
If you want a Music player at power up again, you just play a selection and power down, and it’s back to that mode at power up.
