Would just like to thank the many posters here who helped me do the recovery procedure. I have the Connect a few months, tried to recover, but for whatever reason I could not complete successfully. And today I tried it again (rainy day) and voila! it’s working fantastic! :smileyvery-happy:
I guess it pays to be persistent! Many thanks to the Sansa community for this valuable info!
The Sansa Connect is a great device, huh? It’s WiFi antenna isn’t bad, either … I can get a WiFi signal from it at various spots in my house where I can’t get a signal with my Slacker G1.
The video support is really good, too. If you can get your video into MP4 format, it’s likely that the Connect will be able to play it.
The WIFI antenna will work all around two floors of my house and outside as well. I downloaded some cool videos and some that I took with my Blackberry, transferred using the media converter. There is no limit to what you can do. I’m going to pick up another on ebay and roll back the firmware. Great deal!
Thanks for the info. It’s currently available on many websites, buy.com, ecost, etc. from $26 (refurb) to $35 on ebay. I had a number of credits available on ebay so I went that route.
In my opinion, it’s more fun to buy this model sold as a NO WIFI (at a discounted price) and do the hack yourself. It’s as good as my Blackberry running Pandora, and the screen is clearer and brighter. And no annoying advertisements on the Sansa, either!
Yep, I got one on eBay for something under $30, works fine. I generally avoid refurbs, have been burnt a couple of times with those, even when sold through a website like Woot.
So is it worth doing the firmware upgrade to get WiFi? I just bought one of these in a “white box” on a whim for my GF’s birthday at a MarketPro “Computer Show and Sale”. I think I paid too much, but I’m not going to quibble over $10, except this seems to have only 4GB instead of the 8GB he claimed. I didn’t know anything about the WiFi though. There didn’t seem to be any settings for it. Sounds like it might be cool. But if the Yahoo service was discontinued, there might not be anything there anymore?

$10 for a 4GB player with microSHDC support that can play videos as well is a REALLY good deal, IMO.
I guess whether upgrading the firmware is worth it depends on how much trouble it is for you, and how much you’ll enjoy the Yahoo music streams. Upgrading the firmware should be pretty easy, but different people may have different experiences.
If the Yahoo music service is discontinued, you’ll just lose the Yahoo music streams, and you’ll be back to where you were …

How did you get Pandora to run on a Sansa Connect? Please provide details.
Its not Pandora. Its Launchcast radio streams from Yahoo. The customizable part of the service has been discontinued, but the streaming stations still work. Check the links on the other page to see how to get them.
