Will U3 live on? If not, has something replaced it?

Now that SanDisk has so unceremoniously dumped U3 (WTF?), will/can it live on? I became heavily reliant on that environment and now I feel like the rug has been yanked from under me.

Is there anything to replace it? I’m stranded with a dying flash drive and literally hundreds of stored emails and no way that I know of - yet - to salvage those. I have the Thunderbird system and data files saved, but so far haven’t gotten any support from the Mozilla/Thunderbird community on how to salvage those files and then export them to a new email app.

Any ideas out there?
