I just bought this hard drive a few hours ago and just plugged it in. At first it wanted me to reformat but it kept telling me the formatting couldn’t be completed. I SAFELY removed the hard drive and then unplugged it.
Now it won’t recognise in any USB drive on my computer or my other computer (both Windows 7).
I’ve tried resetting, I’ve tried uninstalling all the USB drivers in Devices and resetting so it reinstalls. All my other USB things work (e.g. USB mouse and USB wifi). I don’t understand what’s going on.
I’m not tech savvy at all. I don’t understand all these technology mumbo jumbo.
I just know that my 320gb hard drive (LG) works perfectly fine.
Can someone help please?
Also why couldn’t it reformat to NTFS to begin with?
Since your drive is not seen on the computer I recommend that you try some basic troubleshooting.
1- Disconnect the drive from the computer and restart the computer.
2- Please try connecting the drive to the back USB port of a desktop PC for testing purposes (directly to the PC, not through a USB hub).
3- Make sure you hear the connection sound windows makes when recognizes a USB device.
4- Go to "Disk Management” to verify if the drive shows up there.
If the drive shows up in disk management but it is not seen on Computer, then it means the partition is corrupted and you will have to format it in order to use it again. Please note that formatting the drive will delete all data stored on it.
If you are not able to format it, try writing zeros to it using Western Digitalis Data Lifeguard Diagnostics tool.
