My elements drive that I’ve been using for a long time has suddenly stopped working. Wasn’t dropped or mishandled. Used it this afternoon to watch movies with the kids on the laptop and this evening when I started up the whole setup again th hdd was not responding. If I unplug it and replace it, the led light up once and then nothing. Any advice?b
My meaning plug into pc. It should be detect hardware and show in device management. That meaning PCB is ok. As it must be detect even your hdd is bad. PCB has a bridge part that conver usb interface to Sata. It can be detect this part too with PCB only. fix HDD USB PCB 2060-800041-000 WD portable HDD data recovery - YouTube You can check out my video(video for toshiba case too)how I test with PCB only. First step confirm PCB is good.
the led flashes once and the the square chip on the image heats up instantly like crazy. I tried a few resistors to see if there is a dry conection and when I accidentally shorted the C60 and C105 the led came on, the temperature went down but still not picking it up in diskmgmnt.
I made a small video show how a good PCB only plugin pc look like and how to swap PCB.
You can buy the same PCB model (2060-771961) and swap rom chip(u12) position from patient PCB to donor PCB if you confirmed PCB is bad. It easy to buy this PCB.
Hope this info can help something.
