WD 1tb HD

i have a problem with my WD 1tb HD ,

every time i connect it to my  Laptop it just beeps ,the drive doesnt show on my computer , i tried everything , in the past i would just restart my computer it it would work , but it stopped working after a while ,until one day i put the disk in a vertically-oriented position (so the light points up) and it worked , now do i have to do this everytime i need my HD ,i would like to know what it means , could the HD need  mechanical maintenance , im afraid that one day no position will open my HD ,please help

I would suspect that the USB cable or port is going bad. I would copy all important data before you have a problem. If the drive is still in warranty contact WD they’ll probably send you a new cable to try or have you send the drive back.
