can i use a usb drive with secure access between pc and mac? If i secure the files on the pc using secure access, can I then take that usb and access those files on my mac ?

The answer is yes and no. You can download the SecureAccess software for Mac and put it on your USB stick along side the Windows version. This works fine for OS X 10.7+ but seems to have stopped working for 10.8.3. It looks like I may be reverting back to TrueCrypt for my cross platform encryption needs.
