Upcoming Firmware: Is the Shuffle Being Updated?

I am anticipating the new firmware release for the Clip.  The latest build for the e200 has a very nice revision to the shuffle algorithm: if we press the "|<< " back button, it will go back to the previous random track, or even forward " >>| " a few tracks, in the same order, once a random set has been populated in memory.

If you just have to replay that last song, you’re not in random limbo any more.

I hope that this function finds its way to the Clip.

Me too, that’d be a great thing!

All,

Dont draw conclusions on what goes in the Clip firmware from the E200 or Fuze players and vice versa.  The video players have more memory available so unfortunately, the shuffle fixes put in place may not fit in the Clip’s limited memory space.

This said we are working on enhancements and hope to have good improvements in the Feature set of the Clip, up to the limit of its available memory space. The next release will improve the 4 GB brightness, offer audiobook/podcast resume features and better battery indicator accuracy.

Also, SanDisk engineers are busy developing new products and enhancements are prioritized against meeting new product schedule requirements.

I see.  The primary improvement I like in the shuffle is being able to go back to the last song, as it’s nice to repeat a tasty track that gets interrupted by irritating things, like…work, or the children (Daddy!  She’s bugging me again!).  I’m not going to worry about the restart / list hold or anything like that on the Clip.  Advanced features can be unique to each device, but I’m thinking of the practical application for the Clip, with its inherent simplicity in mind, of course.

While we can’t expect the Clip to be an “e200 Jr.” , the current configuration effectively turns the two forward / reverse buttons into clones- kind of made the Clip into a Shaker.  There are a LOT of users out there regularly selecting songs > play all > shuffle ON.

My three wee beasties (girls) have been spotted doing just that.

On that thought, I’d like the option to add the boink boink sounds to the Clip, as it would be endless amusement.  I’ve heard that the Shaker is popular with the girls, as it’s cute.  I think one would be fun to drop in the pocket to keep me company when in an environment a bit too messy for the Clip or e200.  Then, amidst coworkers who may be in a somber mood, I can boink boink my wee Shaker!

Cheers!  (earbuds back on!)

Regarding the Clip’s shuffle feature- it ■■■■■.  The Clip is my first Sansa player (I bought it for the Rhapsody DNA) and I’m dissapointed in the shuffle logic of the player. The shuffle logic does not sequence the tracks in a very random order and I too often hear the same tracks and the same section of a very large playlist.  The shuffle logic is inferior compared to the other players that I own, namely several iP*ds.

I hope the shuffle logic can be improved in future firmware releases. If Appl@ can pack an effective, random shuffle logic into the tiny 1GB shuffle model player, why can’t Sansa?

If anyone can suggest workarounds to this, I’m open to suggestions. I’d rather not have to manually shuffle tracks in the playlist and re-sync. Kinda defeats the purpose of the automated shuffle feature.

Hey, I don’t think it would take too much memory for the Clip to remember the last song that was played.  The problem is remembering ALL of the previously played songs.

OK OK,  it seems we found a little more space,  so the next release will get the Shuffle fix.

It might set back the release date 3 days or so,  expect 2-3 weeks from now.

Sandisk does indeed rock!

SansaFix: Great to hear of the potential fix. Another “thanks” for your help and responsiveness. I understand that many of the issues that we users b!tch about are issues out of your control (Sansa customer service, return policy, etc.), so it’s a good thing to be able to claim an occassional success with we (me anyway) whiny users.

wow. sandisk has the best customer support. EVER

proud to be a sandisk user ;D

Comeeee onnnn new firmware…anxiously waiting! :smileyvery-happy:

How’s the firmware coming along?

The newly introduced bugs are fixed.  We are anticipating another week of QA testing.  You will be happy soon
