SSD not detected on MacBook Pro M1 (2021) with macOS Monterey (12.4)

Hi all

I bought a new SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD (1TB) that works fine on my old MacBook Pro (2015) and other systems, including systems running Windows 10 and Ubuntu 20.04.

On my new system however, a MacBook Pro with Apple M1 Max (2021), the external SSD is not detected. I rebooted the computer, I formatted the external SSD and tried different filesystems – but the device won’t show up on my system.

I read that installing PrivateAccess can possibly solve the problem as it ships with some updated drivers. However, I can’t install PrivateAccess on my APFS drive, a limitation of the installer (see also above link).

I would love to know how I can use my new SanDisk SSD with my new system. Any hints?

An upgrade of macOS seems to have solved the problem.
I’m running macOS Monterey 12.6.1, and the SanDisk SSD operates flawlessly.
