Slotmusic player

I bought one of these recently. I wish it had a basic display and better navigation. Without a display though, the fast forward is worthless. Why couldn’t it have a skip to the next folder rather than fast forward? Pressing the back button takes the player to the start of the track, not to the previous track. One needs to press it twice in a row rapidly to go to the start of the previous track. So annoying. Any chance for a firmware update for this?

Funny, I’ve got 5 Sansas, and that’s how all of them work. If you’re more than 5 seconds into the song and press the |<< button it goes to the beginning of the current song. You then have to press the REW button once more to skip to the previous song. Does your Fuze operate differently?

If you just tap the FF button on the SM player, does it not skip to the next song, whereas pressing & holding it causes it to FF through the same song? That’s how the other players (at least mine) operate.

You are right, all the Sandisk players work that way. My other brand of player I used for a few years also works this way. I just checked. :) I guess I never noticed it, since I had the display to show me where I was up to.I guess I really didn’t use the previous track button on my other  players that much, and didn’t focus on it since there are other ways to navigate. I rarely want to go back just one track, so to go back a few tracks I would go to the menu and take it from there.

Yes. FF through a file without having a display to see how far you’ve gone is worthless though.

I agree, if it’s like the newer models (e200v2, Fuze. Clip) where the audio is cut-off during ‘scan’ or FF mode. The e200 v1’s will allow you to hear the speeded-up (?) audio while you are fast-frowarding. This is helpful to find the place you are looking for so you know when to release the button. Without any audio cue, you’re just guessing. As you say, rather worthless.

Being able to hear the audio in FF mode is especially helpful in saving time by not having to listen to commericals in downloaded radio programs and/or podcasts. They can go on for 5 minutes or so. So a 30 minute ‘cast’ is shortened to maybe 18 minutes. Kinda like FF through commercials on a recorded TV program with a VCR/DVR. At least on those you can scan through and see the fast motion, or FF witout seeing it.
