I bought my Fuze last August, but only realized last month that I was supposed to periodically allow the battery to almost drain down before recharging. Is that oversight what’s causing the battery’s life per charge to be edging towards single digits (a month ago I was getting 12 hrs/charge, now it’s closer to 10)? Is there any way to remedy the problem?
These Lithium Polymer batteries don’t have the old memory effect. AFAIK there’s no need to drain it down and it doesn’t improve life. However, the batteries do get reduced storage capacity as they get used over time. I’m not aware of what you should expect. My unit is about the same age and I’ve noticed somewhat reduced capacity as well but according to other posts here the life should be several years anyway.
There are sellers on ebay with replacement batteries. Eventually that may be on the table but it would require opening and soldering in a new one. Also as with any of these unknown replacement batteries you won’t know how good they are until trying them. At the price I’ve seen ($15-20) I’m not sure it will be worth bothering with that - maybe a few years off anyway.

These batteries don’t like heat. If you habitually leave your Fuze in a hot car or anywhere in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time, you are reducing the battery’s useful life.

Where did you hear or read this? As peviously mentioned, the batteries used today in these devices do not have to be deep-cycled but yes, the amount of play-time will gradually decrease as they are used and get older. Nothing lasts forever.
The only benefit to running the player until is shuts off that has been suggested to do periodically is that it may reset or re-calibrate the battery charge indicator so you have a more accurate display of the actual charge remaining.
