Black Rectangle:
Since it is only an OFFER of newer firmware, which will not be desired by some users, the programmers of the HTML used to display “upgrades” for whichever product you use the updaters for should leave a link (like the one for the Video converter) right next to the firmware link and checkbox.
It is OBVIOUS they can do it, but have chosen not to.
If they can link to a popup with warnings and updated information for the Sansa Video Converter, then they can for the buggy firmware.
Can anyone give me a real valid reason why SanDisk can NOT do this for the firmware? (considering they can for the converter)
The Conspiracy Theorist in me says they don’t want to scare their users… but is pissing them off any better?
I would popup an IE window saying “Installing this firmware adds functionality (List functions added) and contains the following problems (List of problems known),” and below this would besomething to the effect of “IF you can live without replay gain, (other problems), then you should update to this firmware. Anyone not wanting to lose replay gain should NOT select this update.”
Wow, that would be a small popup window, smaller than for the Video Converter even…
But I guess shareholders would rather hide the problem in the forums and hope users don’t ever upgrade their Fuze V2’s… (which isn’t too bad an idea if all of their customers were too dumb to find the updater or forums)
Obviously most of the users here are reasonably technically savvy enough to both update their players and find these forums… (Good for you, guys and gals)
I still look forward to a Rockbox day for the Fuze V2… (but I think SanDisk will have to share more IP in regards to the Fuze V2 for this to be a reality before the hardware is already obsolete)
Best Regards Everyone,
BDP
