Sandisk cruzer stopped working suddenly. Dead and computer does not recognize the drive

Hi,

I’ve been a long-time user of Sandisk flash drives. The longevity isn’t always the best but I can usually get 3 years out of a thumb drive. This particular one went bust within a few months, and I would love to know if there is any way I can get my data off of it? I tried three laptops and nothing came up. The laptop makes a quick acknowledging sound when plugged in, but then it disconnects immediately because the laptop is attempting to read it.

Help, Please!!!

It sounds like the flash drive might have internal damage or a corrupted file system. If it disconnects immediately, recovery can be tricky but not impossible. First, try using a different USB port or a desktop PC, as some ports may provide more stable power. If it’s still not recognized, you can use a tool like Free data recovery tool to attempt recovery—it works even for drives that don’t mount properly. If that doesn’t help, professional data recovery services might be your best bet, especially if the data is critical. Always keep backups for important files to avoid this in the future!

I will try what is suggested and see what happens. I have ordered an external drive, in case I have to move over information or move a partition.

Thank you for your suggestions. Will try.

So @SBrown and @helly It looks like either stellar or minitool would have been useful, but it disconnects too fast for anything to be caught.

Are there any other suggestions? Can sandisk help recover the data?
