sanas media converter wont play sound in Sansa Fuze+ preview window...

which is also confirmed when the converter has finished the conversion. Is there any way to have have sansa media converter recognize the audio format?

p.s. this problem has been observed on a relatively few number of files I have tried to convert.

I strongly recommend not using Sansa Media Converter. If you read around, you’ll find that this program is filled with nothing but problems, bugs, errors, glitches, ect. You can use pretty much any other converter as long as the video meets THESE specs.

WOW!… Video4fuze did the conversion in 7 min. instead of 1 hr using the Sansa Media Converter
this proggie is now a must install next to my VideoLan VLC media player. thanks!

What was the size of the video which took 7 mins? Also, what settings did you use with the video4fuze to make a video fit the specs of the Fuze+?

the original AVI was Roy Orbison - black and white night (733 Mb) 640x480
the conversion took 7 min  (305 MB) 224x176, I used the default conversion setting.

I use the SMC for convenience, handy for photos.  As the Fuze+ is happy with different formats, applications like AnyVideoConverter are atomic fast in comparison.  The files can be quite compact, too!

@tomot: So you used the default Sansa Fuze setting? The video would have been quite small on the Fuze+ screen.

@neutron_bob: The SMC is fine for photos, but videos are hopeless. AnyVideoConverter is amazing, conversions are fast (not as fast as 7 mins!) and they are very compact.

The video formatted for the earlier Fuze does not display “small”, it is displayed properly on the Fuze+ screen, just not in the highest resolution possible.

Video does properly fill the screen.

Edit: just an update, I’m listening to Rip Torn narrating Fires of Kuwait, source video MP4, AnyVideoConverter is really fast, and even the Rhapsody 4 client was faster than SMC.  I’ve always had good luck with the SMC, with the notable exception of occasional timing issues caused by dropped frames.  I would have to rerun the source video through AVC converting to MPEG-2, then run to AVI, a real pain, as the individual layers took forever to process.

If you download CCCP. the Combined Community Codec Pack, it has two very nice integrated players built-in, very handy to preview.  Also, CCCP “uncorks” Windows Media Player, giving you very nice DVD menu functionality as a bonus.

I concur with @neutron_bob, the video fills the entire screen.

Aw, yes… CCCP. That was how I first discovered FFDshow, and all of its super-special-awesome features.

Changing the settings for the new Fuze+ isn’t too hard. Just go into the advanced settings, and change anything that says “224” into “320”, and anything that says "176"Into “240”. I would also increase the bitrate a little, to compesate for the slightly larger res. But that’s just me.
