I just found a refurbished Fuze+ at Amazon for $79.00. The seller has no idea if a new battery was installed when the unit was refurbished. Should one assume that installition of a new battery is part of the refurbishing process? He said if it was defective, wouldn’t hold a charge, etc. I could return it.
Never assume anything.
I doubt it has a new battery, especially since one isn’t promised. The battery is likely to work, however battery life may be diminished quite a bit due to its age. Imo you would be much better off buying a refurb 4GB Clip Zip for just $30, and putting Rockbox on it. A Rockboxed Clip Zip is great, except for only around 15 hours of battery life. In case you don’t know, Rockbox is a free alternative firmware(operating system) for the player. Rockbox.org
Does thisn one have the SDHC micro slot?
" Does thisn one have the SDHC micro slot?"
Yes. With Rockbox installed on the Clip Zip(or Clip+) , people have used this with a 128GB micro SDXC card formatted as FAT 32 without having any problems. Rockbox is able to handle a huge database, while the Sandisk firmware has a limit of around 8,000 songs for its database. Rockbox is a free alternative firmare(operating system ) for the player. It has many great features, including easily making playlists on the player itself, managing a huge song database, a crossfeed function(making headphone listening sound much more like listening to speakers. This can be varied or disabled). Rockbox is a dual boot system, meaning that it sits alongside the original Sandisk firmware, and one can boot the player into the original firmware if they wish, by holding down the left button while turning on the player. Rockbox also offers many choices for what is shown on the display, and how it is shown(these are called themes). Rockbox.org

How is this done w/the Fuze+…RockBox sounds very interesting.
Look at the Rockbox manual for the Fuze+. Without Rockbox many called the Fuze+ unusable and frustrating. With Rockbox installed they said the Fuze+ is quite usable, however many prefered the Clip Zip with Rockbox installed.

“Rockbox has a dual-boot feature. To boot into the original firmware, when the player is turned off, press and hold the Volume Down button, and then press and hold the Power button while keeping the Volume Down button pressed. After 5 to 10 seconds the original firmware should boot”
