recovery

I can’t explain what you’re seeing.  After reading your last post, I installed and ran the Sansa Connect Recovery Tool, and it worked fine.

Can you post the contents of the following file:

C:\Program Files\SanDisk\Sansa Connect Device Recovery\SansaDeviceRecoveryLog.txt

Thanks for the prompt response…

In firefox on this pc it says…

This Connection is Untrusted

You have asked Firefox to connect
securely to sc01-p031.zing.net, but we can’t confirm that your connection is secure.

Normally, when you try to connect securely,
sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are
going to the right place. However, this site’s identity can’t be verified.

What Should I Do?

If you usually connect to
this site without problems, this error could mean that someone is
trying to impersonate the site, and you shouldn’t continue.

Then when I add it to the exceptions list it wants a user name + password…

Hmmm, this looks like a certificate problem.  I’m not sure why this would be happening now, maybe some change at Zing’s website.

You could install the certificate, if you do trust it.  I don’t know how that’s done with Firefox.  With IE8, I’d click on the “Certificate Error” button, which would give a “View Certificates” option, which would then invoke a dialog that would allow me to install the certificate.

Ya thats what I just tried by adding the certificate to the exceptions and allowing it…any other ideas?

Feel like I have bricked this unit , last night I managed to get it to finally go to boot up normal then said low battey charge. So charged over night and tried the same thing. Power down holding the right button + volume up + power and releasing power after 8sec but just goes right to recovery screen no matter what.

OK, I tried updating my Connect again, and though I didn’t get a “can’t connect to Internet” error, I did get a message something like “can’t recover your device at this time, contact SanDisk support”.  I looked in the log, and I got the same error you did when attempting to access the https zing.net URL.  I disconnected and reconnected USB two more times, and on the third time, it worked, even though it still wasn’t able to download the data from zing.net.  The goal is to get it to get past the line in the log that says “Loading: 1008000 16809984 1754944”.  If it fails, you see “Write to USB fail: 0 eeeeeeee0 4092”, but if it succeeds, you see “Done!” followed by “Loading: 4400020 4294967295 1783808” and then more stuff.

I have no idea why it worked the third time, given that it still wasn’t able to download the data from zing.net.  It could be that the firmware was already on my disk from a previous run of the tool.  I *think* the data is stored in the “RecoveryImages” folder under the folder containing the log file.

Same problem here, i’m desperate!

I’ve got a ticket open with SanDisk regarding this problem.  Their first response was “it works for us” and “it’s probably something to do with your firewall.”  Sigh.

I already disabled the windows firewall, and the problem continues.

Yep, well, it’s not a firewall issue because the recovery tool’s log shows a response from the zing.net server.  I sent that log to SanDisk, so they should have known that.  I guess they didn’t look at the log.

So, the only thing we can do is hope they fix this problem.

Well, as I said earlier, I tried it several times and it finally worked.  I don’t know if there’s any co-relation between the https error and the actual loading of the firmware.  But I’d think you’d have to have the firmware files present on your hard disk in order for them to be loaded onto the Connect.  I suppose we could experiment with someone who has what appears to be the firmware files on disk (eg, me) sending them to another person, and then seeing if the update then works.  But really I’m taking wild-a55 guesses here.

I sent you a pm.

Ya I wrote sandisk 3 days ago about this and still no response , im willing to give it a try using the files you spoke of also if you want to rar or zip them up and upload them to a free file host? Would be very appreciative…but I dont know if that would work or not because like I said I just updated another one last week but this one just will not go through

I think the problem with zing.net started happening very recently.

See if you have files in C:\Program Files\SanDisk\Sansa Connect Device Recovery\RecoveryImages

ya there is a sub directory

E:\Program Files\SanDisk\Sansa Connect Device Recovery\RecoveryImages\003500000dd4145d09231ada0300f98a

It has these files…

3 *.E files and 1 *.sig file

Thanks PromisedPlanet for send me the Recovery Image files.

I placed the file (and changed the number of Device Id) and trying repeatedly, but it isn’t working yet.

I have an idea, if we could change this url:“https://SC01-P032.zing.net/UserPortal/Updates/Recovery.aspx?\_zinfo=zkf%3D0.0.0.1%2Cd%3D0035000010684f5110cb044f0300b384%2Cv%3D2” for “C:\Program Files\SanDisk\Sansa Connect Device Recovery\RecoveryImages”, maybe the program doesn’t need to connect to zig.

But i don’t know how to change it.
