Question About Video File Sizes

I just used Sansa Media Converter to transfer a few short aircraft crash video clips into my 8 GB Fuze. I thought Media Converter would make the resolution lower and file size smaller to display on the little LCD display on the Fuze.

Actually, the file sizes increased. I had a 866KB wmv file on my PC. It ended up being 2.1MB on the Fuze. I also had a 5.1MB mpeg video file that ended up being 7.16MB in the Fuze.

Why do these files end up larger than the originals that display on my PC monitor?

Can one of you digital gurus enlighten me?

I just want to learn myself sumthin’.

Why? I don’t know the specifics, but you’re right. That’s just the way it is.
