Portable ssd not working

Hello, my portable ssd stopped working a while ago. Today I took it out of the original housing and put it in a new case, still not recognized. What I don’t understand is with the SanDisk Nvme to usb c the ssd gets hot and another one of me also isn’t recognized. In my own case the ssd doesn’t get hot but also no access to it.

If the SSD is not detected, there is no guaranteed fix, but you can try a few safe things.

First, test the SSD on another computer and another OS. Then try a known compatible NVMe enclosure, not the same one again. Check Disk Management on Windows or Disk Utility on Mac to see if it appears as uninitialized. Use a different USB cable and port.

If the SSD heats up but never appears, do not format it. If it stays cold, it is likely dead. At that point, only professional data recovery can help. Software tools will not fix hardware failure.

please share more details, such as-
1- does your pc makes any noise when you ssd is plugged in.
2- or have you tried other methods or changed systems/USBs.
3- when you plug it into a new system, any lights turn or not?

this will help me get you through the solution.

Hello,

with the original housing it gets hot almost instantly and makes a sound when plugged in but doesn’t appear in disk management but shows up in the devicemanager. With my other cases I think only the controller of the case shows up, but the ssd only gets normal warm.

With my own case the controller name is shown in diskmanagment as not initialized.

Hi,

I tried different systems and os. It makes a sound with the original case but with my own ones only after a few seconds it makes a sound and the name of the controller (I think) shows up. The original case doesn’t have a light, my own ones show a light
