I decided to plug into laptop. That works no issue.

Hey there! I can understand the frustration of not being able to transfer your files from your external hard disk storage to your new Sandisk extreme using the USB capability connected directly to the router. However, I came across this website https://multitechverse.com/ which might have some helpful tips and tricks on how to troubleshoot this issue. They have a lot of great information on different types of tech-related problems, so it might be worth checking out.

If Windows is not detecting the Sandisk Extreme SSD when connected directly to the router via USB, ensure that the router supports USB storage devices and is properly configured. You may also try connecting the SSD directly to the computer to transfer the files if the router method is not functioning.
Have you attempted to use a data recovery tool such as EaseUS to recover any misplaced files? It could be advantageous to give it a try if you haven’t already. EaseUS is extremely user-friendly and efficient, making it a worthwhile option.
