I would like to password protect the entire flash drive rather than use the secure access vault. I find the secure access vault very combersome and slow to retrieve files. My folder and file system is in complete disaray inside the secure vault. Is there a proceedure for a whole drive password?

After you backup all your data on the drive,
update the software with the u3 software found here.
http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/240/kw/u3/r_id/101834/sno/0
then let us know if you are able to use password-enabling.
" Its amazing how people will post anything that comes to mind."
Unless the drive was manufactured to support U3 U3 can not be installed on it. Did your Cruzer originally have U3 on it bad65?
No. It is the current model with Secure Access, which I find extremely too slow for my use. Besides that, after transferring folders into the secure vault, some of the foldres still remain in the open vaults.
I have used and still have the older, but smaller, Cruzer Micros with U3. My storage needs have grown so I purchased a newer and larger Cruzer, which has been very dissapointing to say the most. The performance of the U3 drives was much more user friendly.
Is there dependable software available to password protect the new Cruzers?
There is software to encrypt folders and files, like Toucan ( http://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/toucan ) but drives not so much. The problem is software that does that usually requires Admin rights on the pc it’s used on which limits it’s portability.
I believe IronKey USB drives are secure but also expensive.
Thanks Ed.
I’ll look in to the Iron Key drives. This will most likely be the last Sandisk I purchace.

Is the cruzer slice 32gb able to be updated to the U3 software of whatever it is and i found that the toucan is a rather good application to use in order to encrypt all my files on my usbs but is the cruzer slice able to be updated at all
“Is the cruzer slice 32gb able to be updated to the U3 software”
No.

[Is there a proceedure for a whole drive password?]
Yes, here you have the one I use, ‘USB Safeguard 6.00 [P]’, used to any brand.
You can download it from my personal folder public (free), not commercial.
It is in alphabetical order: http://filecloud.io/_cpweb34i
