Two days ago, I connected my passport ultra disk to my laptop (Windows 10). The disk is detected but I can’t go into the disk.
Disk management, shows this disk in raw mode.
Then I remembered that I have an older laptop with Vista. I turned on and connected my passport ultra. NTFS format and I can use windows explorer in order to open his files. What’s wrong???
Well, the drive is in the RAW file system which means that needs a filesystem so that you can use the drive. In order to do so, you have to format the drive.
and before that, if you have any important data on it you have to first take a backup of it so that you may not lose the data. contact data recovery.
That was not the problem. I didn’t tell you the complete picture. I connected my external HD to other PC’s and it worked fine. This hint that the problem is with my laptop and the HD is fine. A few days ago, my laptop automatically updated some Windows 10 files/drivers. After that, I connected my external HD and it is OK.
WD support on this issue were very poor. If 5 computers says that the HD is OK, and 1 PC says is wrong, the weight of the evidence says that probably the problem it is in the Operating System. It is a bad advice “Format the HD”. WD Support had the complete picture.
The drive has turned into RAW format and in order to use this drive again you need to format the drive and define new file system to it. You won’t be able to use the drive it stays in RAW format.
