Every time I plug my passport in windows says “USB device not recognized , a usb device attached to this computer has malfunctioned” I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver but my passport still does not work what else can I try
Does this happens with another computer? If so, mate you will need to replace your drive.
Does the drive spin up? If not, try a USB Y-cable. This will pick up power from two USB ports.
Also be aware that many people are reporting physical connection problems with the micro-USB connector.
