My passport 1tb is not working

till today morning my passport is working as usual. afternoon when i restart my pc its not working. the light is there but my pc is not detecting the passport. i checked with my laptop and other PC same thing. light is there but its not detecting by the device. i had lot of important office and personal documents… please help…

If the drive is not seen when you connect it to your computer then you should try some basic troubleshooting.

1- Disconnect the drive from the computer and restart the computer.

2- If the computer is a desktop, connect it on the back USB port (directly to the PC, not through a hub).

3- Make sure you hear the connection sound windows makes when recognizes a USB device.

4- Go to "Disk Management” to verify if the drive shows up there.

If the drive shows up in disk management but it is not seen on Computer, then it means the partition is corrupted and you will have to format it in order to use it again. Please note that formatting the drive will delete all data stored on it.

You might want to try a data recovery software to recover the data and then try to partition the drive.

I have the same problem. All of a sudden no computer any longer detects the My Passport; no device connection sound from Windows, different USB ports do not help, and the drive doesn’t show up anywhere at the PC. It doesn’t show up at the disk management either. All what happens is My Passport light goes on and it starts running. What could have happened?

EDIT:

The problem started when I tried to connect the drive to a friend’s computer, through a USB hub which was not working. After that, the drive hasn’t been recognized in anywhere. Don’t know if it is possible that an USB hub could damage the drive but that’s when this started.

Also, the drive seems to produce some heat relatively quickly when plugged in to USB.
