My compact flash card burned up my Nikon D200

My 8Gb Extreme compact flash card was defective and when inserting correctly into my Nikon D200 body I got an error message.  I looked inside and no pins were bent or missing.  I noticed a burnt electrical smell coming from the slot compartment as well.  I never had a problem with Lexar cards.  Nikon will probably want about $300 to replace the card slot component because obviously the Sandisk card caused an electrical short on my Nikon.  Question is am I stuck with this bill?  If I send back the card to you guys will I get a replacement and the photos restored that were on the defective card?

You probably want to call SanDisk directly on this. This is a user’s forum.
