I had a recorded video saved on my microSD card. I had just completed cutting/editing the video on my mac using iMovie and I saved it so I thought the transfer was complete. I hit the button to upload the video to youtube and the the upload started. About 30 mins later when the upload was about halfway done I (like an ■■■■■) removed the memory card from the mac because I figured it was already saved on my mac hard drive (it wasnt). After the upload to youtube was complete, the first half of the video was perfect but the second half was completely black screen (beside the text and effects I added). The two video files on my SD card are still there but its 0kb. I tried to recover using Recuva but it didn’t work. Is there any suggestions on how to recover these videos?
You should try data recovery software. If the SD card is still readable (the chip / hardware not broken) then data recovery software should or may be able to find back the data. If not via file system references (e.g. remainders of FAT) then the software may at least find files based on their signature during a raw / data carving scan of the entire medium. The latter gives mixed results, depending on the data and if the files were fragmented on the card or not. Pictures etc. are usually not a problem. You can try this software if you wanna solve your problems: Disc Drill and I’ll be here to provide support if you need it.
Do not write new data on it, then try data recovery programs. Except for Recuva, there are many other programs can do video recovery, such as Bitwar data recovery, Disk drill, iCare, etc. Try again. Maybe it will work.
Or you can try TestDisk, which is also completely free. Some commercial data recovery software offers a preview feature, which means you can check if the YouTube video is complete before restoring it. If everything looks fine, you can consider whether to make a purchase. However, most recovery software usually offers a free trial. For just two videos, this should be more than enough.
Since the files on your microSD card are showing as 0KB, it means they were likely not written completely before the card was removed. However, recovery might still be possible. And, since Recuva didn’t work, try a more advanced tool. You can try Stellar Photo Recovery for Mac (which supports video recovery). check out this article for SD card recovery on mac systems.
I know it’s been quite a while, but just wanted to chime in! It seems like the video files got corrupted after the interruption, and while Recuva didn’t work, you might want to give the BLR data recovery software a shot.
It specializes in recovering data from various storage devices, including microSD cards, even when files are damaged or show as 0KB. Hopefully, it can pull the files back for you!
Now, stop using the SD card to copy files, since every new write can overwrite the lost video data.
iMovie sometimes keeps temporary render files, so you may be able to find partial video data there.
Check: ~/Movies/iMovie Library/Render Files or ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.iMovieApp/Data/Library/Caches/
