There has been an ongoing issue with MacOS 12 where certain WD/SanDisk/G-Drives do not work with the operating system. In a support article updated today WD claims that the 12.1 update fixed the issue, but this is not correct. It is not fixed. I still cannot read and write to my drive, but it works just fine on other systems. So it is not a drive issue, it is a software issue. WD keeps pointing the finger at Apple and Apple keeps pointing at WD. It doesn’t matter who is responsible, what matters is that it gets fixed.
Hi @ah42,
As of December 13th 2021 Apple has released an update to macOS 12.1 and the issue has been resolved. Please update to the latest OS.
We apologize for any inconvenience this interruption may have caused.
There could be a number of reasons why your hard drive, flash drive, USB drive, or SSD might not be showing up in your Mac system. It may have been formatted incorrectly, it may be corrupted, it may have a faulty (or inadequate) cable, or there could be something else. To fix the problem you can try the below methods:
- Edit your Preferences under Finder Preference
- Check the cable
- Try on another Mac and then try on PC
- Use Disk Utility for First Aid
- Change the Drive format
Hope it helps!
