When I turn it on, it does not.
It seems to not turn off properly as when plugged in it says ‘battery low’
Any suggestions?

in that case you can try to manuall reinstall the firmware of the player and see if that helps

When the player is charging, it can’t be turned off. When it is charging via an ac charger, you can pause the music though so it won’t play.
