Help with music that spans to MicroSD memory card on Sansa e250 v1.

I have a Sansa e250 (2GB) version 1 and I added a 2GB microSD memory card. When I connect it to my Windows 7 PC in USB mode = MTP, windows properly recognizes it as a sansa mp3 player, but only shows me the main 2GB as available memory.

If I switch to USB = MSC, Windows explorer shows me 2 separate memory devices of 2 GB each: the sansa itself plus the MicroSD card and it does not recognize it as an MP3 player device.

I have a playlist in Windows that points to music files in subdirectories under “My Music”; the total size of all files referenced in that playlist is 3.5 GB.

Is there an easy way to import (synchronize) the windows playlist and files with my sansa 250 + microSD card so I use all the capacity?

Can you describe steps to accomplish this?

Thanks

There’s nothing wrong. This is the way your computer sees your player in MSC mode, as 2 separate drives. In MTP mode, it sees it as a musical device which must be ‘managed’ through Windows Media Player (or other similar ‘syncing’ programs).

The thing with the v1 models is that you cannot add any files to the external memory card via MTP mode, so the best way to avoid confusion is to use MSC with both the internal and memory card space. Simply drag & drop the files you want to the memory location you want.

Thanks a lot for your response. It makes sense. I already copyed the MP 3 files to the main Sansa memory and to the SD card. I can see all of them from my play all. The only thing is I would them to play in the same order I have in my playlist in Windows. Can I simply copy the Windows playlist to the Playlist folder of the Sansa or is there a utility to convert it?

You can try; it might work. You may however, need to create a new playlist showing the correct path to the files.

The Windows media play lists are in different format and it is not recognized.

I also tried to manually edit using notepad the default play list that is created in the Sansa Playlists folder, but it has  NULL characters after each character so it becomes a pain.

I guess I will have to live without a play list, and simply use the play all in alphabetical order using the song title to play them, it really messes up with albums that I want to hear in the right sequence (e.g. Pink Floyd The Wall is not the same if you play it in alphabetical order :-()

This is the best little playlist utility I’ve found for E200 series v1 players:

Sanse Playlister (yes, that’s correct. It’s not mis-spelled). It works like a dream.

I haven’t used it in a long time, so i don’t remember if you can combine files from both the internal memory and external card into one playlist or not, but I seem to remember you can.

Thanks a lot. It will do the job perfectly. It is what I needed.

I accidentally stumbled upon a solution for this. Turn on the player and access the files / micro sd section of the menu. THEN plug it into the USB cable. See if that works. Burt
