hey guys, really hoping someone here can help… i got a sandisk extreme pro 128gb sd card that suddenly stopped working. it was fine yesterday, now my camera says “card error” and when i plug into laptop it just asks to format… i got like 1000+ travel pics in there, no backup tried restarting, different readers… no luck. anyone knows how to recover corrupted sd card without losing data?? any software or tricks that actually work?? plz help
Scan the SD card with professional data recovery software first, they can read the damaged memory card deeply and help you get back your photos. Remember to save the recovered files to your computer or another hard disk instead of the original card when operating to avoid overwriting the data.
If the software still can’t recover after scanning, or the computer can’t recognize the card at all, the hardware is damaged. At this time, it is better to find a professional data recovery company to deal with it, as they have more advanced tools to repair the physical damage. But this may cost more.

Hey Daniel,
Sorry for what you’re dealing with—losing travel photos is the worst. Since your laptop still detects the card (even though it asks to format), that’s actually a good sign. It means the data might still be there, just not accessible in the usual way.
I’d suggest trying a Windows data recovery software. If you’re unsure about it, you can start with a free version—most of them at least show what can be recovered before you do anything. Just make sure not to save anything new to the card or try to format it, so you don’t accidentally overwrite your photos.
Don’t format the card or save anything new on it. Formatting might erase your photos permanently. Use reliable photo recovery software like Stellar Photo Recovery, or RescuePro. These programs can scan the card deeply and find your lost files.
If none of these work, it might be a hardware problem, and then a professional data recovery service is your last option. They’re expensive but can sometimes get your photos back.
Did you check the status of the SD card? Right-click the Start button and select Disk Management from the context menu. Locate your SD card in the list of drives and check whether the file system is listed as RAW.
Windows can only recognize valid file systems such as FAT, exFAT, FAT32, or NTFS. If a drive has a missing or corrupted file system, you cannot access it or read/write files until it is repaired or reformatted. However, this does not necessarily mean that your files are lost. You can try the following solutions to resolve the issue:
- Repair the file system of the SD card.
- Run the CHKDSK command to fix errors on the SD card.
- Update or reinstall the SD card driver in Device Manager.
- Recover your old files from the SD card, then reformat it.
