Help - I'm trying to create a playlist with Winamp

Hey guys,

I’m having a nightmare of a time.  I just got my Sansa Clip and I’m trying to create playlists on it without WMP.  I’ve already searched the forum, extensively, and have been looking around here for the better part of 3 hours and finally I decided to just post a new thread since the “old” ones don’t seem to help much at all.

I’m running Windows XP sp2.  I’m trying to create the playlist in Winamp.  My clip is in MSC mode.  After following the instructions I finally found here, I was able to create a playlist *and* it worked.  There are two problems I’ve run into at this point.

  1. After creating the playlist in Winamp, I have to disconnect the Clip, then reconnect it before the playlist shows up.

  2. After doing #1 above, there are *2* identical entries in the “Portables” list of Winamp’s media library, each with the identical media listing and playlist listing.

  3. If I click on the playlist in Winamp, the entry is completely blank.

There has GOT to be a simple way to create/edit a playlist on the clip.  But like I said, 3 hours into it and I’m barely any closer to a concrete solution.  Just about everything I’ve found in the forum and online are either old or only offer pieces to the overall puzzle.

Any help would be insanely appreciated.  Thanks in advance!

PS. For some reason my computer is incapable of upgrading to WMP 10

1.) Yes, it won’t show up (on your player) until you disconnect and the datebase refreshes.

2.) I never use the ‘Portables’ list. Simply go to Winamp’s ‘Library Preferences’ > Local Media > click on the Watch Folders tab and 'Add folder…". Navigate to your Clip’s device letter (E: for example). Hit the ‘Rescan Now’ button. Now it ‘sees’ your Clip as the Media Library, not your computer’s hard drive. From here, you can assign tracks to your newly created playlist, and you should not get the [empty] playlists after you’re done.

Wow, thanks for the suggestion Tapeworm.

I’m a little fuzzy on how I would create a new playlist using the setup you just mentioned.  If it’s not too much of a bother I’d really appreciate a suggestion on how to get that set up too.  Thanks again!

My post & instructions you linked to in your previous message isn’t detailed enough?

Good point, guess I lost track of already-covered-details.  Works like a champ!
