Fuze won't play next song in list

No, I’m converting from flac to ogg.

No what I am asking are you playng something like this… Song 1.mp3 then Song 2 .ogg? and its chokeing in the middle?

Oh. I see.

No, I’m just trying to play an album of ogg files in sequence.

No Idea then Sorry.

Thanks for the suggestions.

On another thread it was found that you should consider making sure there are NO ID3 Tags on your OGG files (apparently its possible).

I’m sure that’s not it - I’m encoding them directly with oggenc on the command line on a linux machine.

More information:

  1. completely removing *all* tags from the files doesn’t seem to make any difference

  2. if I skip back, then forward, the file plays just fine, so something is happening on the transition from one file to another

kuniklo,

Please give us some more info:

Firmware version
Device Capacity
Content mix (% full, mix of OGG , MP3, etc).

One thing Id like to have you do to help narrow it down is apply the devies format command and then load up your content fresh if you would be so kind. We have a few ideas, but need some more info, you can send me a PM if you would like.

SansaFix

Firmware version
Device Capacity
Content mix (% full, mix of OGG , MP3, etc).

I have a silver 8gb Fuze, running the 01.01.22 firmware. I’ve tried just loading a single ogg album onto the device, and I still encounter this problem.

The first thing I did after loading the new firmware was format the drive, so I should be ok on that score. I’d be happy to send you test files if that would help.

Just to be clear though - I’m also seeing this problem with mp3 files, although only sporadically.

Thanks for your help.

I have to say that this has been a pretty disappointing experience so far. I bought the Fuze to play oggs but it doesn’t even reliably play mp3s.

you may have gotten a dud. Try returning it for a new one.

Still doesn’t work after the firmware update. The Fuze is now in the trash and will certainly be the last Sansa product I buy.

Where do you live? I’ll come by tonite and go dumpster-diving. :stuck_out_tongue:

Bring some glue.

Temper, temper.

Since .ogg and linux are both open-source, there are a lot of versions of the encoder out there. The Fuze clearly wasn’t prepared for every possible flavor and variation of .ogg.

Your encoder might have been writing headers that that Sansa wasn’t ready for. People have reported different results from different encoders. Or the problem might have been in the tags, since Linux taggers aren’t as compatible as Windows programs like mp3tag–or even iTunes, which has given me ID3v2.2 tags that never bothered my Fuze, although it prefers ID3v2.3.

Sansafix, one of the very few actual SanDisk employees on this board, offered to assist you and possibly debug the whole problem, which would have helped you and possibly many other Linux and .ogg devotees.

But hey, enjoy your tantrum.  I thought you Linux people enjoyed tweaking more than whining, but I guess it takes all kinds.

If you’d bothered to read the thread you’d know that I experienced this problem with mp3s too, even after all the tag tweaks suggested elsewhere on this forum.

But don’t let me spoil your generalizations.

Mp3s encoded with Linux? Probably with goofy tags–UTF instead of ISO-8859-1. But don’t let me spoil your self-righteousness. Everything in the world should be geared to whatever beta versions of whatever programs you are running on your computer.

mp3s downloaded directly from emusic.com, mp3s from amazon.com, mp3s encoded with the standard version of lame with the tags configured *exactly* as specified elsewhere in this forum. mp3s that play perfectly on every other hardware or software player I’ve tried. This is DAP 101, buddy.

Later.

Look, YOU had a bad experience. I am sorry for that. BUT for every one of you, there are probably 1000 people out there with Sansa products that have no problems. I told you 2 months ago to take it back because you got a lemon. Sounds to me like you didn’t do that. Now you are upset. Makes Sense to me. What is my solution for you? If you trashed your fuze… Go Find another player made by another company that plays OGG. I wish you luck. But Please Please don’t just hang around here and bash those who try to help you. No one deserves that.
