Fuze randomly skips to next song - assistance, please?

My Fuze player will erratically skip to the next song when it reaches a certain point in several songs, though this point varies depending on the song. I have tried deleting then re-downloading the songs, with no effect. Is this a problem with the Fuze, or with Windows Media Player, and how can it be resolved? Advice is greatly appreciated!

Ok, first make sure you dont have shuffle turned on.   Although the shuffle function will not change songs in the middle of the song.    Does the song in question play all the way through on the computer?  Reason I ask is because a lot of mp3s are incomplete and cut off early.   When downloading, always get the biggest sized file of a particulart bit rate.   For example, say I have the big hit ‘Mamas Girl’ By MC FreeWilly that I want to find.   Many options are presented for download so we will stick to the tried and true 128bit versions, of which there are numerous sized songs.   I promise the 6mb version will play more fully then the 2.5mb version, if they are recorded at the same rate.

One other possible, much harder to find, is a song ghost.   My name for a song that says its so big and plays for so long, like 6mb that pays for 5mins 50 secs, the file says it, the computer shows it, WMP will say it has that amount of time to play even but it doesnt, and its not recorded silence either its a vacuum of some sort and it confuses the machines.  Makes every song that plays after it start in the middle, the end will be in the middle and then start over and cut off in the middle where it starts.  I have had that happen on CDs that I have burned but Dont know if it would mess up the Fuze or not.  But some things to look for.

Ok, thanks, though I haven’t come to a solution as of yet. Yes, the songs are playing through perfectly fine on the computer, and the shuffle is turned off. I’m not sure I understand what you were saying about different sized versions of songs - I’m not too knowledgeable in the finer aspects of MP3 players, unfortunately.

Ok if they play fine on the computer, then they arent cutting off early.    So make sure you have latest firmware update and I recommend you format your Fuze.    Do this by going into settings, its an option there.  It will erase your Fuzes memory but should fix issue.   Then just reload all your music.  One way to keep your music and still do the format is to have your tunes on a memory card, the format wont erase the card.

Ok, I’ll try that, and I’ll let you know how it turns out. Thanks again!

Edit: That seems to have done it - thanks very much for your help!

On second analysis, the problem still exists, only this time, the affected songs are different than before.
