I am looking to buy the Fuze 8gb. My research shows that it comes in silver color only. However, some on-line vendor offer it in black as well. Can anyone (like Sandisk?) clarify this issue for me? (I really prefer it in flashy black)
Thanks

I believe there is a black model as well, Search the net for this model: SDMX14R-008GK-A57
Cheers
Yes there is in black, I have one and it looks nice.
YES, the Sansa products look best in black (IMO). ^_^ :( I’m not sure why silver was picked for the top end models, but im happy they have black models now :)
Just to clarify things. they have always had a black. the black was the first to come out.
There has always been a black Fuze, but not in 8gb, the ads and reviews were quite consistent with this. Evidently the black 8gig fuze is a new thing. I just bought one last week. It scratches easily so get a case for it.
gotcha. i was thinking about 4 and 2GB fuzes.

Even scratches on black cars are more visible than any other color. It’s not that black scratches any easier, it just that the scratches shows up more due to the color contrast and light reflection off the dark color.
It does scratch easily. There was a TINY white speck that I carefully swiped with a clean tissue, just a single, light swipe, and it made a scratch a quarter of an inch long, I feel like returning it. So I put some clear wrapping tape on it, over the display. Compare this to the YP-T8, which I’ve been using for 2 years on a daily basis. The glass on that dap is absolutely scratch proof, period, and there’s nothing protecting the glass, and I vigorously wipe/rub it at least once a week, and it looks like new. The Fuze scratches VERY easily, and absolutely needs protection.
The highly polished plastic surface would be prone to minute scratches and the ebony black color will make any imperfection stand out like a sore thumb. But it is not just the Fuze.
Anyone who wears eye glasses can attest to the fact that while the newer plastic lenses are much lighter, you have to excercise more care with them. You cannot use a facial tissue to simpley wipe off a dust speck or you’ll get a result as you did on your Fuze. It will scratch. Paper products, however soft feeling to your skin are made with wood pulp and will scratch highly polished plastics like eye glass lenses and the screen covers/front plates of our beloved Sansa Players.
When I switched from actual glass lenses to plastic in my eye glasses I was warned of this. In fact, I suffered under the weight of the heavier, yet more bullet-proof glass lenses for some years after plastic lenses were introduced, simply because the plastic ones did scratch so easily.
You have to use a soft (preferably cotton) cloth and you have to first use water or some wet lubricant to clean it, then you can follow it up with the dry cotton cloth to dry it and remove water spots. The newer techology micro-fiber cloths available recently are also a good choice. I was given one of these to clean the plastic rear window in my new convertible top I had installed on my car last year. But . . . I was also warned NOT to use it dry.

You can always buy a skin, like I did…
Even though I prefer black models of things, you gotta admit the silver fuze looks pretty **bleep** good
Aww I can’t even say the alternative of darn?

Tapeworm, I’m very aware of this distinction, between paper and cloth wipes. Another example is the plastic front of my microwave, for which I use an ordinary cloth towel. A paper towel actually scratched it when I first bought it. Sometimes I’ll wipe an unfamiliar surface with a regular tissue, as opposed to a paper towel, which is also more gentle. For the back of the Fuze, I’ll put a dab of liquid dish soap, then rub with my finger a little, and wipe with a wet paper napkin, just a few broad swipes. I’ve already ordered one of those hard plastic cases so I won’t have to worry about it. Another thing I’ve learned is not to RUB the screen covers, but to just gently wipe once twice. On a similar note, I was washing my still kinda new car today, since there’s a break in the winter weather, and didn’t even wash the front hood since it was basically already clean. Don’t wipe a surface that’s already clean, you’ll just end up scratching it.
