FORMAT THE WRONG DISK

Hello,

I inserted a SD card in my 8Go Sasa Clip+ and wanted to format it in the first place, but unfortunately I formatted the wrong disk, as the two of them were mounted as disks on my desk (I use OSX).

you can imagine how happy I am, as the 8go were nearly fully filled with music, but wait this is the fun part. Cause the worst part is what brings me here:

Now when I connect the SANSA CLIP to my computer, the disk appears mounted and totally empty (there is no more all those folders I used to see when I was exploring my Clip+)  which seems quite normal since I (stupid me) FORMATTED the disk…

And when I try to boot the clip+ I get this error mesage:

FAT is corrupted.

Please connect

device to PC and

(I can’t read the end of this error message)

I tried to update the firmware, but it does nothing (except now I’ve got that bootrom in the root folder…)

And when connected to a computer, the logo lights on and indicates the status “connected”. But as soon as I disconnect the device it gives me this error.

I guess I should copy in the root folder all the files that came with the Sansa when I first get it.

Question: anyone could copy me this file system so I can boot my device again ?

And tell me if I have to format it again before copying those files (and which format : FAT, FAT32, something else?)

Thank you in advance anyone. I’d really appreciate some help.

Alex

Format the disk as fat32.

Then manually re-install the firmware.

Thanks ! I’m gonna try that.

I did exactly what you said. Formatted the device in FAT32, put the firmware int the root folder (manual installation of firmware) but it’s not working…

Same message of error.

Any ideas ?

I really think that I need the system files I erased by mistake…

The firmware update includes all the system files you need. You formatted this from a PC & not your Mac, right?

No, you can delete them. The firmware doesn’t actually use any part of the user accessible flash memory, it just stores its database there (which is erased and rebuilt on every USB insert anyway). It sounds like you haven’t partitioned/formatted the player correctly. This thread suggests how to fix it on the Mac: http://forums.sandisk.com/t5/Clip-Clip/FAT-corrupted/td-p/145696 No idea though, I don’t have a Mac.

THANKS A LOT, I FORMATTED THE DEVICE LIKE ADVISED ON YOUR LINK, AND EVERYTHING WENT BACK TO NORMAL.

THANKS AGAIN GUYS.
