El Capitan , VLC and My Book for Mac 2TB

Hi,

Since the upgarde to El Capitan everytime I watch a video using VLC at some point the video freezes up. Reinstalled the application and seemed to work fine again but then started doing it again.

I started watching what else was running or happening with my computer and it seems if I am watching something and my external hard drive goes to do its hourly back up is when the video will freeze up. Once the back up is finished the video will play with no issues. Not sure how to go about correcting this but have watched this happen during 5 different times and each time My Book for Mac is backing up when the video freezes.

Any ideas on how to correct this would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

It would seem your computer is giving higher priority to the backup process than media playback. If so, you would need to check if your backup application allows you to alter priority settings or system resource usage.

Thanks for the reply. I not sure where I would look to check this out. I went under Time Machine Preferences but nothing there. It is quite frustrating I’m hoping there is something other than just disconnecting My Book for Mac everytime I watch a film.

If you are using Time Machine, then Time Machine is the place to go. Maybe you could try changing the schedule used by the app so it does not conflict with the time you are normally watching videos using VLC.
