got my drive today and was happy to try it. Installed the Memory Zone app and when it ask to plug in the USB it won’t see it. Then I installed the iXpand Drive and also when it asked to plug in the USB it won’t see the drive.
So is this a firmware issue with support of iOS 18.2 or is there something else wrong?
There might be compatibility issues between the drive and iOS 18.2 or a potential issue with the apps you’re using. First, make sure both the Memory Zone and iXpand Drive apps are updated to the latest versions. Also, ensure that the drive is properly formatted and compatible with iOS. If the problem persists, try restarting your device, checking the USB port and cable, or testing the drive with another device to rule out hardware issues.
I had this same problem (4/2/25) and when I called Western Digital, they told me that this new “Dual Drive Go USB Type-C” disk is made to work with the Memory Zone app and an Android phone. For those of us used to using the iXpand drive (lightning connection) and now have an iPhone with a USBC connection (iPhone 15 and higher), you can now no longer use the new SanDisk Go USB drive the way we used the SanDisk iXpand drive with an app. The Memory Zone app for the Go USB drive does not work with iPhones that have a USBC connection. The SanDisk Go USB drive does work with the USBC iPhones, but it takes more steps now.
Here are the steps:
Plug in the Go USB Type-C drive
Go to your photos and select the ones you want to put on the disk
Choose the forward icon (rectangle with an arrow at the top)
Choose “Save to Files”
Choose “Browse”
Choose “NO NAME” or whatever you named the SanDisk Go USB drive
Choose “Save”
Delete photo(s) from iPhone
I preferred the way the older iXpand disk worked, which deleted the photos from my iPhone after they were saved to the disk. I don’t care for this new extra step. Also a very big PROBLEM is that I often choose multiple photos at a time and, once the photos are saved onto the Go USB drive, you can no longer see which photos you had selected to copy. In order to delete the correct photos from your iPhone, you will need to compare the photos on the Go USB drive with the photos in your iPhone camera roll as you delete them from your iPhone. This process is cumbersome and time consuming, which are the opposite reasons why I bought the disk.
Why upgrade a product which is easy and useful (iXpand drive) with a new product (Go USB Type-C drive) that has fewer features than the old one and creates more work for the consumer/user? This is just bad business…
I bought a SanDisk Ultra Dual Drive Go USB Type-C thumb drive two days ago.
On the front of the package it lists PC/Mac/iPhone/iPad.
On the back of the package it says, “Easily transfer files between USB Type-C smartphones, tablets, and Mac and USB Type-A computers.”
No matter what I have done, what SanDisk software I have used or not used, my iPhone 16 Pro with iOS 18.4 will not see the drive.
I want to move encrypted files back and forth.
Thanks for any additional words of advice beyond what has already been said.
@9crickroad Dual Drives can be used to transfer files on iOS using the native Files app.
Memory Zone mobile app for iOS doesn’t support the Ultra Dual Drive Go USB drive.
