Does the 8GB Clip hardware have the ability to handle 24 bit audio?

Hey guys, quick question.

I downloaded a rare album of one of my favorite bands that I was looking for that was ripped from a HDCD version, so the files are 24 bit, instead of the regular 16 bit.

I placed 3 of the songs on the player, but they won’t play.  As soon as I hit play, it just starts cycling through all 3, as if the song was less than a second long.

Am I to understand that the Clip can’t handle 24bit FLAC files?

Bump for the answer.

are these files in MP3 format? i would suggest reripping the cd in flac format. they will be better quality and probably will resolve your issue.

Frankly, I’ve never tried 24bit files on my clip, even though I deal with 24/96 files all of the time.  If I have such a file, I always dither down to 16/44.1 “red book” standard to be played on the clip.  I only hear a slight difference on state of the art studio equipment between the two, so the benefit in the clip handling such files would be miniscule at best.

No, they are encoded in FLAC.
