&#!?$, that doubles the price . . . a “non” micro 16GB card can be had at Fry’s for $29.99 today; a micro card is double that . . .
The 8gb micros are pretty cheap, that’s what I have until the price drops on the 16

Smaller is ALWAYS more expensive, plus the fact that the Micro 16GB card has only been available since the end of September. It was $100 when it came out. When I checked last week, it was down to about $65. I expect to see it under $50 by the first of the year.
I doubt it will get below 30 bucks though, until the 32GB version comes out.
Remember the 4000 or so song limit on the Fuze until there is a firmware update to expand it. For that reason, unless you use 256 kbps or higher bitrate, the player might not recognize many of the files on a 16 gig card. For this reason, an 8 gig card might make more sense for most people. The 8 gig micro SD cards are cheap.
If you need the extra space now, and have a phone or any other device that uses microSDHC, I’d honestly recommend the 8gig for now. It’s alot cheaper and you can take advantage of its full capacity. You can’t yet take advantage of the space of a 16gig, and they cost alot more. When you’ve filled that 8gig up, and the FW has been upgraded to allow a higher file limit (so you can use the extra space), the prices on 16gig cards will be cheaper, anyway. Then you can get a 16gig, and use the 8gig for your phone or something else. If you really don’t think you’ll have any other use for that 8gig and don’t wanna waste your money when you’ll replace it in a few months, anyway, you may just wanna wait a bit. You can go ahead and get the 16gig now knowing you’ll not replace it for a long time, though, just realize that you’ll only be able to use about half the space for now, and by the time the file limit is raised, prices on the card will likely have dropped a bit.

So I take it 16gb cards are now a real go with the 8gb fuze? What is the “device format through settings menu” - is that all ok using the player with linux?
Are there any known issues (apart from with kingston cards) with 16gb cards and the 8gb fuze?

Again, you have to make sure you get a micro sdhc card…regular SDHC does not work. And frankly, the 16GB cards were a go even then, unless you used something silly like 64kbps bitrate. I’m around 28GB of music with less than 5000 songs. 
Ah, a micro SDHC card…does it take the straight card or do I need the card + adapter? If I were to get an 8gb card, does that need to be micro too (I’m guessing so)? I mentioned about the 16gb cards being a go now as it seemed that the previous song limit restricted the use of them unless you wanted high bit-rate files particularly, and as I’ll be using lower bit-rate vorbis files I wanted to make sure I could get enough files on there (ah the space-saving joy of converting my mp3 collection to ogg…)

If you want to read the card any other way - via laptop, reader, etc. - you will probably need the adaptor.
I just installed a 16gb SanDisk microSD card in my 4 gig Fuze. It works fine and all the capacity is available for use. I have about 14 gig in use on the card. I bought it from Amazon for $50. Free shipping and NO tax! Gotta love it. Probably will be half that within a year, for sure when the 32gb card is available…

Yeah, I have a laptop with an integrated card reader and so was thinking of getting the adaptor anyway, so I can just grab the card to update the music, but I thought I’d better check whether I definitely needed it or not.
Now just gotta wait a couple of week for my birthday to get it… =8(
