Dear God I need help....new Sansa Fuze wont install

Wow, lots of replies.  If you’re connecting in MTP mode, that’s good.  Windows can do that occasionally.  In any case, be sure to REBOOT the computer after uninstalling any devices.

Let the computer stabilize (load your normal programs, etc) and then plug in again.

Good advice Bob…perhaps I will let it fully charge before I attempt anything else. It is odd though…if I just barely plug the adapter into the unit with it just barely hanging in there it shows the settings screen and shows it is charging…if I plug it in all the way it shows the black connecting screen and NOT charging…followed shortly by the USB device error balloon popping up on my computer screen.

Very bizarre.

The power pins of the USB connector make contact first, as they’re slightly longer.  The Fuze will charge.  If you press the connector all the way in, it sees the data pins, and there start the issues.

Thanks very much to everyone who took time out to help

It is still not strightened out but hopefully I will be able to get it on the right track soon enough. The help is appreciated.

Try connecting manually in MSC mode, and see if it charges normally, AND shows up in Windows Explorer.  If this is the case, it will show if the problem is on the Sansa side or the PC side of the equation.

HMM. Try and get Service pack 3 and see if that fixes it. you can get that while you wait to charge. Also I went back and re read everything. Have you tried any other computers? If not try that and if it connects we know its not a fuze issue.

Do you have another computer that you can plug it into? Do you have or know someone else with a Fuze, if so, try their cable. The problem could be:

  1. Your computer, trying a different computer will tell you if it is or not
  2. Your Fuze, ditto
  3. Your USB cable.

Change 1 thing at a time, do not use a different cable to plug it into a different PC.

I had not thought about the Cable, Good Idea

downloading XPSP3 right at the moment while the Fuze charges…I dont have another computer on hand to try but I could do it tomorrow with my friends PC. The computer works great otherwise…and as I said the Fuze worked well when it was charged. I think I am just missing some key componant here that will bridge the two. I will try each step one at a time until I figure it out.

by chance did anything happnen to the cord or the plug on the fuze. Gotten steped on, wet, electric shock, lint?

Nope…it is brand new out of the box. I downloaded and installed the new XP update that was suggested but it didnt make any difference…the computer is still unable to recognize the device when I plug it in. Im still working on it, any suggestions Im all ears.

This is what helped me. I could not get my Windows Vista to accept the Fuze after the first connect was over. Tried resetting to factory defaults as well as formatting which was pointless as well. Later i tried pushing the proprietary end of the USB cable in with more force and now it works most of the time. It still happens that windows manages to establish and immediately lose the connection to the Fuze several times in 1 second. So the connection between the USB cable and the Fuze seems to be the cause of trouble in my case. I dont like this and i am tempted to mess with the cable connector a bit to ensure a better fit. I dont like messing with the cable itself either, so if anyone has a better suggestion i am all ears!

Apart from this i love the Fuze so far. It played my audiobook chapters out of order, but i have already identified the idiotic ID3 tags that were responsible for that.

Greetings…

Unplug it from the computer, Slide the power switch up and hold it for 20 seconds. There was a bug reported a while back where the player would freeze when you are playing video unless you pause the video before hitting the home button. I dont know if that was fixed or if thats whats going on here exactly but it may be worth a try.

Also how did you add the files? Did you use SMC, Rhapsody, or Video4Fuze?

Finally and this is not ment to tease or demean you in any way but rather as a tip from someone who has been here a while. You dont need the Giant font, or to tell people not to post teasing comments, or that you need real help. If you post it people will read it, and will assume you need help, so the font is not important, in fact some find it harder to read and wont help because of it. As for the no teasing well there are those that will on occasion tease people but the reality is that the people who come here are in the same or similar position that you are so they will leave you alone.  Also your problem really has nothing to do with the topic so you should have started a new thread.
