Cruzer Fit and car stereo

I recently got a Cruzer Fit 8GB. I picked it up to use in my JVC car stereo because of the small size of the Fit.

I deleted the folders that came on the Fit and copied my music to it from my other USB drive. Took it out to the car and it played fine. Until, I went to go somewhere later that evening.

When the stereo first turns on it always says “file check” for a second or so then starts playing music right where it left off. With the Fit plugged in, it says “file check” for a second or so, then nothing happens. The light on the Fit blinks several times then stops. In order to get it to play I have to remove the Fit and plug it back in. Of course, that makes the music start at the very first song. This unacceptable. I have tried formatting the Fit a couple times. I even made sure that the allocation size is the same as my other USB drive. Format is the same FAT32 in both drives. On my computer both drives are identical. But the Fit refuses to start playing in the car with out being reinserted.

I have used no less than 4 different USB drives in that car stereo and none of them have had this problem.

Any ideas on how to resolve this problem?

Buy another one of those “different” drives.

By the way, from what I’ve read it is not advised to leave a USB drive/stick/card/whatever plugged into the port while turning the car off and on again. During start-up, an electrical surge could fry whatever is plugged into the port at the time.

Sounds more like a current issue to me. I think the car stereo doesn’t have enough power to supply the drive. This specific drive might have a different power consumption.

I have the same problem. JVC and Cruiser Fit not working properly.

When i turn on the stereo (Not the car), the JVC system displays “File Check”. If i remove the USB and reinsert it, the music starts playing.

Tapeworm - SanDisk Guru - I have been using Kingston and other good and non-good brands of flash drives and this is the only one that’s temperamental. Since you’re the “SanDisk Guru” maybe you could shed some light onto this issue with a bit more professionalism than “Buy another one of those “different” drives.”
