Clip+ firmware on Clip

Hello.

I’ve had this Sansa Clip for quite a while. I just recently found out that updates are available for this player. I’ve been using the original firmware all this time, with no problems. V01.01.05A. Updated to v01.02.18A. I now see, that firmware was intended to be used on the Clip+. How do I go about getting the “plain clip” firmware update that was intended for this player ?

I didn’t think that the Clip+ firmware actually would install on the original Clip–but perhaps I’m mis-recalling.

The firmware for the original Clip is in the Clip firmware sticky thread at the top of this forum–but here’s the direct link.

Could be I actually have a clip +. I put in on with the auto-updater. I guess if you do it that way, it cant be wrong. Correct ? Still works, anyway.

Yes, the Auto Updater will choose the correct firmware, and so your original assumption may have been incorrect . . . .

Here is what the 2 different players look like.

The v1 clip and the plus use different CPUs so using the wrong firmware destroys the device. Fortunately the old firmware checks that the new is compatible before installing so without so hacking it won’t let you break your player.

The v2 clip and plus use the same CPU but it’s wired differently so it too would brick.
