I have trolled the boards and havent seen this, I am currently sitting vigil at the hospital with a seriously ill family member in 10-16 hour a day shifts, as a result, the Fuze is a true blessing. I load it with music, podcasts and various video podcasts as well as shows and movies. I am putting its endurance to the test as I relie on it for sanity.
Now, I know the battery should last roughly 24 hrs, give or take, if I listen to audio only. And 5 hrs or so, if I do straight video playback so I should get a time somewhere between those two if I mix them, which I do.
I don’t think I am getting that out of it. Yesterday is a good example, I listened to podcasts, and radio for about 6 hrs, and video for about 90 mins only. And had to stop playing with it, as it was redlighting, I.E., the battery symbol starts flashing red to indicate power is dangerously low.
Now, on the boards advise, I put all audio on a 4gb microsdhc card and videos are on the internal flash dr. All audio is standard mp3 nothing fancy. I know battery life is not exact, but doesnt this sound unusually weak or short?
The tests of battery life, are based on low quality audio, so the numbers they suggest are not realistic. The best thing I can suggest for you is to run thru an electronics store and get a wall adapter, you can use your fuze while its plugged in that way.
As CB stated. the approximate 24 hr. battery life is only applicable if nothing but 128kbps mp3’s are being played. I would also bet that battery life would be affected in which encoder was used to make the files. I use my fuze strickly for audio, play nothing but high bit rate ogg vorbis or flac files and I’m averaging 16-17 hours in each of my 2 devices.

Ok, I one ordered from amazon. But now, I connected it to my Xbox 360 once and all the fuze would say is ‘connected’ while I played files from the 360. When connected to wall socket, wont it do the same thing?
I noticed when I watch a video, even for 30 minutes or so, the battery goes down, but that’s expected in all players.
When I have my player plugged into the wall I can see the batter icon flashing when charging and then full green when fully charged. It charges fast and then stays charged even if I’m playing it. You will like that for watching video.
I also ordered extra USB cables, I think I paid less then $5, on Amazon. I have an extra at work and an extra still not in use because my old laptop doesn’t work with my Fuze anymore:angry:, but it’s there if I need it. So my original just stays with me to use in the car or if I need it.
I’m estimating that my Fuze (mine is also a 4GB, its new, because my old Fuze went through the washers, don’t kill me!) battery life is probably about 23 hours long. I usually listen to it when I’m studying (approx like 30 to 40 minuties) I listen to it on my way to school (15 minutes) and I listen to it when I read (20 minutes). And usually every 2 weeks, it’ll need a charge.
All I can say, is that if your Fuze hits very low battery, turn it off, and charge it, because you don’t want the panic of seeing your Fuze not starting up. So, charge it after you are done listening to it, that’s all I can say.
Videos, however do require the screen to be on all the time, and the way that you can save battery power by a bit, is to go to settings, then brightness settings, and adjust it. The lowest setting has the best efficency, but yes, it is annoying to try to watch something dark. The highest settings, may provide the best viewing settings, but I expect the effency to be really bad. So, set that to something that works well.
oh and dalag, what operating system are you running on your old laptop? If its windows XP, the Sansa Fuze will only recongize it if the operating system has service pack 2 installed on and also Windows Media Player 11 installed on it. That might fix it.

How old was it? Do you know if it was a v1 or v2 Fuze? Have you thrown it away? Can you open it and take some photos at each stage? Can you upload those photos to somewhere like Flickr to show us?
Now all we need is someone that has wrecked (or washed) a different version of Fuze than you to do the same thing.

Trying to analyze the internals of both versions are we? It would be nice to know the hardware differences. I fear that if we do start to look at the differences we wont actually be able to tell the difference.
Now, the results of Fuze + water= screwed up screen, and broken wheel. Now, I turn it on today, and the screen was normal again. I’m guessing that the LCD screen somehow recovered itself. The screen colors used to be screwed up, but now they are normal again. And also, the wheel, was responding random, and delayed. So, sorry that I couldn’t get pictures, but at least I could remember how bad it was when it went through the washer.
My reaction: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

It would be interesting to know, esp when there is no risk. I suspect that the difference is not the core processor but some supporting controller.

SANSA FIX Is there anyway we could get photos of the 2 different versions? Just so we could see the difference? If not I guss we could wait for a screwed up one.

Well, I guess its time for my old Fuze to go through the washers again.

Here’s a V1 Fuze disassemly hazza…never seen a V2 though
