Anyone willing? MTP Driver help...

Hi,

I have spent hours with Sansa help desk, on this forum, and uninstalling (rolling back) and reinstalling WMP, installing MTP porting kit, making sure I have XP SP2, formatting the clip etc… I’ve searched and tried most of what’s on the forum for my problem.

I am on my second clip, and still cannot get it to be recognized as an mtp device.  I even have an RMA # now from Sansa to get a third Clip, obviously that’s not going to be the answer.  The biggest reason I bought the clip was so that I could go running with my Rhapsody library.  If I can’t get this thing figured out, that’s never going to happen.

I am asking (begging) for someone to jump in with me and follow through until I get this thing working.  I’m willing to start from scratch.  Ask your questions, tell me what you want me to install, uninstall, try again…just please help me get this clip working as an mtp device that i can transfer RhapsodyToGo music to it.

I am so grateful to anyone who would be willing.  Has there ever been an instance where no one could get someone through the bumps to fully utilize their clip?  This might be a challenge someone would enjoy?

Thank you in advance for your time.

My current situation:

OS: Windows XP SP2

Clip only shows up under “devices with removable storage” in My Computer no matter what USB setting I have the clip on (msc, mtp, or auto detect)

It is not even listed in device manager (no yellow exclamation points either)

ask and direct away!  thanks!

Are you plugging the player directly into the USB port rather than a USB hub or extension?

Have you tried more than one USB cable?

Have you tried USB ports on both the front and rear of your PC?

Have you tried more than one computer?

What other USB devices do you have plugged in?

  • I am plugging the player into a USB port accessed through a 2 port USB 2.0 Card Bus Adapter. My laptop is older (2002) so didn’t have a 2.0 USB port. And yes, I have plugged into both of them.

Have you tried more than one USB cable?

  • This is my second clip, with a new USB cable

Have you tried USB ports on both the front and rear of your PC?

  • The other USB ports on my computer aren’t 2.0, so don’t meet minimum requirements for the Clip

Have you tried more than one computer?

  • I don’t have a second computer (at work either), so no. However, as mentioned I’m on my second clip with the same problem. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if the Clip worked on another computer.

What other USB devices do you have plugged in?

  • Two printers and the USB cable to sync my Palm, all connected via the USB ports on my computer. All work fine.

And, this situation where the Clip is never recognized as MTP is new since yesterday. Yesterday, at one point it did list MTP device in device manager with yellow exclamation point. When I right clicked to reinstall driver no software could be found, then another time I got a Code 9 error and another time I got a Code 10. Now all of that is gone, and it is only recognized as removable storage. Between the two clips I’ve now had, I’ve gone through every fix and unfix I know how to.

I’d really like to do whatever I need to “to start from scratch” and uninstall and reinstall whatever is necessary. Thanks for jumping in. Your input is appreciated.

Have you tried disconnecting all USB devices from your computer (from both the USB 1.0 ports on your computer and the USB 2.0 ports on your card bus adapter)?  This has worked for some.

Hello, I’m in a similar situation to you. All of a sudden the Clip refuses to be regonised by the computer (I’m running XP Home SP2). The Clip isn’t even recognised in ‘My Computer’ and the Clip just shows that it is charging and doesn’t say ‘Connected’ as it once did. I have no idea how I can solve this problem. Are there any solutions?

I think I love you!:smileyvery-happy: I disconnected everything from all USB. Restarted computer. Reformatted Clip. Plugged it back in, didn’t seem to be recognized. I went to device manager, there it was with yellow exclamation point. Right click to update mtp driver, voila!!! I have RhapsodyToGo!!!

I can’t believe after the multiple hours of frustration it’s fixed without anymore installing/uninstalling.

THANK YOU!!!

p.s. I haven’t plugged my printers back in yet…almost afraid to. If I have more problems when they’re plugged back in, that’s where I’ll go first!

I’m not sure of first steps, since your clip had previously been recognized. Per my story, mine is recognized in mtp now for the first time.

If you go into device manager, can you see it there? Any yellow exclamation points? Are you trying to use it in msc or mtp mode?

I’ve tried it in both modes with no luck. I don’t see it in My Computer or any exclamations in the Device Manager!

Congratulations on getting yours to work by the way!
