64 gig only shows as 32gb?

I had to reformat my Sandisk 64GB, the computer only shows 32GB though? Do I need to re-install some software from Sandisk? Thanks Bruce.

I suspect you reformatted it as FAT32. FAT32 only supports drives up to 32GB. The drive needs to be reformatted back to exFAT for full access.

Thanks, After I am doing using the files tomorrow I will look for it, although I am not sure I saw exFAT in the options. Though I remember there was some software on it before I had to use it for media to fix a windows 10 computer, but it wiped it clean.thanks

Google it.

The USB drive showing only 32GB instead of its full capacity (64GB) is usually due to it being formatted with the FAT32 file system, which has a 32GB limit. To confirm if your USB drive is formatted in FAT32, open File Explorer, locate your USB drive, right-click on it, and select “Properties” to view the file system type under the “General” tab.

If it is in FAT32 format, you can use Disk Management to delete the existing 32GB partition and create a new one to use the entire capacity. (Note that reformatting will delete all files, so make sure to back up any important files.)

Follow these steps:

  1. Press the Windows key + X and select “Disk Management.”

  2. Look for your USB drive in the bottom pane. It will likely show a 32GB partition and a large area of “Unallocated” space with a black bar after it.

  3. Right-click on the existing 32GB partition and select “Delete Volume.”

  4. Right-click on the new “Unallocated” space and select “New Simple Volume.”

  5. Follow the wizard, ensuring you allocate the entire space to the new partition, then choose NTFS (or exFAT) as the file system.

If you confirm in Disk Management that the file system is not FAT32 and the capacity issue persists, you may want to try the solutions listed in: Hard Drive Not Showing Full Capacity? Try These Solutions!

If your 64GB SanDisk card is only showing 32GB, you don’t need to install any SanDisk software. That’s not the issue. A real 64GB card should always show around 58GB usable.

Try to format it with exFAT and run a full capacity test using H2testw (Windows) or F3 (Mac/Linux).
This will help you check if the card is genuine or counterfeit.
