Just replace the Fuze. It does this.
You should update to the current (and final) firmware using the directions here:

Don’t install the Updater. Just grab the All Regions link for your hardware (1.x or 2.x), unzip it, drag the FuzeA.bin file over to the unit and let it update.
In Settings/System Settings/USB Mode choose MSC. This makes the Fuze appear to your computer like a regular flash drive.
If you go to Music and scroll down past the Album, Artist, etc. and past the first screen you’ll see Folders, and you can navigate that way.
You might also look at www.Rockbox.org, which makes free alternate firmware for a lot of players. It offers folder navigation.
