Windows thinks my Passport is now a CD drive?

I have a Passport Essential 1Tb SE (WDBACX0010BBK) that Windows has suddenly decided to recognize as a CD drive instead of an external HD). It is password protected, and that portion of the drive works: I enter the password, it unlocks the drive, but then the computer hangs until I unplug the WDC drive.

It seems like a driver failure, but I’m getting this on three different PC’s with two different cables. I have tried to uninstall the drivers and the WD Smartware to no avail. Fortunately I have a backup, but this is rather frustrating.

Anyone else having a similar problem?

Does the drive show in Disk Management? If so try running DLG. It’s at WD in the download are for your drive.

It sounds like there is a problem with the drive.

Only the WD Unlocker partition shows up in Disk Management.

It sounds like the drive Contact WD.

if the unlocker partition is the only thing that shows after you unlock you  have a corrupted drive

as a last resource try updating the firmware

replace if no go

This is the same problem I am having with my Passport. I started a similar thread here…  http://community.wdc.com/t5/My-Passport-for-PC/My-Passport-Corrupt-Files-Can-They-be-Recovered/td-p/364429

I am still not able to access the portion of the drive that contains the data. The only thing that shows up is the Unlocker.

How can I update the firmware to see if this may help?
