Win 10 x64 6TB MyBook seen as 465GB in Filemanager

WDBBGB0060HBK-NESN external USB 3.0

Disk Manager Sees> 5589.03 GSs NTFS

File Manager Properties shows> Capacity as 465GBs

There is only 1 partition.
Volume 4 J My Book 6TB NTFS Partition 5589 GB Healthy

I would rely on what Disk Manager says. However, I’m not sure what File Manager is. Is File Manager part of Windows 10, or Drive Utilities (from WD)?

[Edit]

Are you using a single drive 6 TB My Book?

The operating system and other software does not see the 6TB,

By Filemanager I meant >>
Win10’s Explorer shows 465GBs.
When I tried to do a bachkup to this disk,
Macrium Reflect, it ran out of space.

So DiskManager sees the space but Win10 Explorer and
backup software does not…
What do I do??

I am not sure what you meant by ‘single drive’.
It is a Mybook 6TB WDBBGB0060HBK

and I checked with Diskpart
and it has used the entire disk.

DISKPART> list part

Partition ### Type Size Offset

Partition 1 Primary 5589 GB 1024 KB

Okay, I’m really confused. Did you try to reformat it? Cause I can’t think of any reason why you should be having these issues. Make sure that you have any data on the drive backed up, but you might want to try redoing the partition on the drive.

Now, in order to do that you will need to re-initialize the drive as a GPT partition table, and not an MBR partition table. GPT is the only table that supports partitions larger than 2.2 TB. Here are some knowledgebase articles to help you.

  • To wipe the drive and be able to re-initialize it (use quick write zeros).

- How to initialize the drive (make sure you choose GPT).

- How to format the drive.

It was GPT. So I stated from scratch.
I went into Diskpart and selected the drive and executed the ‘clear’ command.

Then I went back into Drive Manager and right clicked the disk and selected GPT and did a quick format and all is well.

Thanks for the help.

You’re welcome. I’m glad it worked out.
