Whenever I connect my external hard drive, it crashes Windows. I’m not sure if it’s due to corruption, hardware issues, or something else. Has anyone experienced this or know what might be causing it? Any suggestions for troubleshooting would be very helpful!
Are you able to connect other devices (flash drives, non WD drives, etc.)? Have you tried using a different usb cable and usb port? Have you plug the usb drive into another PC/laptop?
If you have a USB hub, try plugging the hub into your pc, then the drive into the hub.
I would also make a backup of your PC before you do much more in case the repeated windows crashes finally toast your PC.
What specific model is the USB drive? What version of windows?
If your external hard drive causes Windows to crash, try connecting it in Safe Mode to eliminate any potential driver or software conflicts. Use the CHKDSK command to check for and repair any errors on the drive. Additionally, update or reinstall the USB and storage drivers to ensure compatibility.
