I have purchased WD Ultra Drive it was working fine but i don’t use it too much. Recently I wanted to backup some of my data so I plugged in it to my PC now its not even showing on my PC only LED light is on not even blinking but its constantly on and when i touched my drive i feel its processing but nothing is showing on my Monitor. I tried accessing it multiple times but I failed again and again. Its still in warranty. I am accessing it with its original cord , checked that my drivers are fully updated , tried to change drive letter and path and done everything i could do but its not working. I have purchased this because I knew that WD is best but I didn’t expect this from WD , for its safety I even purchased its cousioned case and I used it very carefully.
Please help me accessing it because it has my all my important data I can’t lost at any cost.
I request to team WD to help me with this issue and also help me recovery my all the data which is already in the drive.
The flashing light typically means the hard drive is trying to read data and the read/write head is working. In the worst-case scenario, the zero track could be damaged, causing the head to endlessly search for the zero track’s starting address, which might prevent the drive letter from showing up. On a brighter note, the issue might be as simple as insufficient power supply, which could be stopping the motor and head from working properly. For WD drives, frequent head repositioning due to power-saving features can also lead to C1 errors and eventual drive failure.
If your WD hard drive lights on but is not showing on your PC, do not panic; change the USB port (you may try to connect the external hard drive to the motherboard) or connect it using a different USB cable to check if it shows up on the PC. Turn the USB Root Hub On to Make the WD External Hard Drive Recognizable. Here are the steps:
Click Start > Type: devmgmt.msc and hit Enter.
Open Device Manager > Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
Right-click USB Root Hub > Click Properties > Power Management.
Uncheck the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power option.
Repeat this process to turn on all USB Root Hubs in the list and reboot the PC. Then, see if the WD external hard drive appears on your PC.
It sounds like your WD Ultra Drive might be facing a hardware or software issue, but there are a few steps you can try before seeking a warranty claim:
Try a Different Port or PC: Plug the drive into another USB port or try it on a different computer to rule out issues with the port or system.
Check Device Manager: Open Device Manager on your PC and see if the drive is recognized there. If it shows up with an error, you may be able to update or reinstall the drivers.
Run Disk Management: Go to Disk Management and check if the drive appears there. If it does, try assigning it a new drive letter or check if the drive is showing as unallocated.
Data Recovery Software: If the drive is recognized but inaccessible, you might want to try using data recovery software like Recuva or EaseUS Data Recovery to recover your files.
Contact WD Support: Since the drive is still under warranty, it would be a good idea to reach out to WD customer support. They can guide you through additional troubleshooting steps and, if necessary, provide a replacement or help with data recovery.
Given the importance of your data, it’s crucial to avoid further attempts that might damage the drive and contact WD as soon as possible for professional assistance.
I understand how frustrating this can be. As @Evelynr suggested, try using a different USB cable, port, or computer or go for checking the device manager option, for errors and update or reinstall the drivers.
Check disk management for the drive, If the drive shows in Disk Management, assign a new drive letter, but don’t format it. You can also use data recovery software. to get your data back, if the drive is recognized but inaccessible.
Since your drive is under warranty, contacting WD support is a good next step. I hope this helps you recover your files!
