WD Smartware quiery: Use for backup over network?

Hey guys,

I’m in the process of buying myself a Western Digital My Book Essential 2TB. I am going to plug this external drive into my wireless router’s USB port, and effectively use it as a NAS device. 

What I want to know is, will the WD Smartware software be able to recognize the external drive over the network, thus making backups over the network?

DVDL_, WD SmartWare will only work with the Western Digital My Book Live over the network. This is because WD USB External Hard Disk Drives are not supported while used as Network Attached Storage.
